Who are we?

Green Apple House and its precursor, Thos. Woodhouse and Company have provided timber framing services and frame cutting since 1986.  To date in 2024 we have cut and assembled over 494 Timber frames across the United States with the preponderance of these in the SE states.  Green Apple House (GAH)  was founded and is currently owned and operated by Thomas Cox.  Mr. Cox with a small staff of design and operational team members oversees all projects and is hands on for both design and field operation and supervision.  Mr. Cox is the primary contact for all projects. Mr. Cox is available as needed for all jobs we do and is onsite 50% to 80% of the time during framing. Mr. Cox is a member of Woodworks.org and the Timber Frame Guild. GAH and Mr. Cox hold a general contractor’s license in North Carolina.

In 2004 Green Apple House located to Charlotte, North Carolina and is still located in Gastonia and Waxhaw NC, where it is presently under construction with its 14800 SF Timber Design Center.  GAH is unique in that it both designs and fabricates it’s timber structures with it’s associate partner in Rockwood TN.  This collaboration ensures a seamless integration between design and fabrication as well as field assembly.  Since 1986 GAH primarily worked in the traditional Timber Frame market using native American species with hand joinery.  In 2002 GAH started its shift into the CAD based machine cut process of timber with European Glue laminated wood (primarily Spruce) and using Cross Laminated Timber.  In 2016, GAH transitioned its glue laminated timber and CLT workings into Cox Laminated Timber (CLT).  The Focus and orientation of CLT is to use the latest in technology in both cutting and design combined with the superior fastening systems and technology now available from European manufacturers.  Our rai·son d'ê·tre is to combine the best of traditional craftsmanship with cutting edge technology to provide a superior product in the most cost effective manner possible.

Since 1986 we sought to place the Timber Framing Business squarely in alignment with the Green (Apple House) design movement in what we call modulus efficiency (ME).  ME is nothing more than a green basis of design, eliminating waste by working within the design parameter of existing sizes for building materials.  After all, what can be more green and beneficial to society than living in the material we produce and keeping them out of the dumpster and landfill.

This is who we are, Green Apple House.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
